| Anthony appeared in the television
commercials for Nescafé instant coffee, with Sharon Maughan. The commercials followed the
romantic encounters of neighbours who shared a fondness for Gold Blend/Taster's Choice®
coffee. The format of the commercials created a soap opera environment which encouraged
viewers to tune in for the next instalment to see whether the couple would progress beyond
just sharing a cup of coffee. In the UK the
commercials were for Gold Blend® coffee. They aired for twelve episodes, from 1987 to
1993. In the US the commercials ran for thirteen episodes, from 1990 to 1997 and
were for Taster's Choice® coffee. Anthony's character was called Michael in the US ads
and Matthew in the UK.
